Speech Guidelines
Please use the framework below when creating your speech.
1. Always greet your audience and incorporate a statement or question that grabs the audience's attention.
2. Next, tell who you are, what grade you are in, and what you are running for.
3. Follow by stating what your ideas are that will benefits the people in the audience, how your ideas would benefit the school.
4. Finally, include what the traits are that you have which make you the best candidate for the position.
5. Once your speech is written, remember to practice it and make sure you are within any time limit requirements.
*Only include ideas that you have the ability to implement or change. Focus on quality versus quantity, meaning what you write about is more inviting to readers than how much you write.

Election Poster Guidelines
- Posters must be appropriate.
- Posters must be signed on the back by an adviser, indicating they have been approved, before they can be posted.
- Posters should be created at home and brought to school fully completed.
- Remember - Officers will be elected for a nine week term only. Once the nine weeks is complete, new officers will assume each position.
Job Descriptions - Officers
Each office will serve a term of nine weeks. At the end of the nine weeks, the next elected officers will assume their positions.
President
The president will open all meetings and speak at various events throughout the year. |
Vice President
The vice president will close all meetings and speak at various events throughout the year. |
Secretary
The secretary will be responsible for working with an adviser to maintain accurate meeting minutes throughout the year. |
Treasurer
The treasurer will be responsible for working with an adviser to update the council on its financial status at each meeting. |
Representative
Any student in grades 3 – 5 for elementary and 6-8 in middle school, who joins the student council, will be considered a representative and will not have to run for election. Representatives from like classes will be considered a committee and will be responsible for democratically providing reports to his or her class after meetings. |
