Founded by Mary Key in 2017, Key Up Education began as an effort to create immersive, hands-on learning experiences that extended beyond what could be replicated in a traditional classroom.
What began as field trip opportunities has grown into a broader educational outreach initiative that includes tutoring, instructional consulting, differentiated learning experiences, and STEM-based programming. Key Up Education focuses on strengthening foundational skills in literacy and mathematics, addressing learning gaps, and helping students deepen their understanding through meaningful, real-world application.
A central component of the initiative is its collaboration with companies and community organizations that provide authentic experiences connected to classroom learning. Partners are provided with the academic standards and learning objectives being addressed and are supported in adapting their experiences to encourage students to apply knowledge, make connections, solve problems, and engage at increasingly higher levels of thinking. Programming draws on principles aligned with Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.
Key Up Education is also designed to support educators by reinforcing classroom learning through targeted academic support and applied experiences, giving students additional opportunities to practice and deepen their understanding while helping reduce some of the instructional planning burden placed on teachers.
At its core, Key Up Education connects strong academic foundations with meaningful experiences, helping students understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters and how they can apply that knowledge beyond the classroom.
